BECKLEY  A new space-themed exhibit is giving young visitors in Beckley an out-of-this-world way to explore science

The new “Moon to Mars” exhibit lets children build rockets, step inside the Orion spacecraft, experience reduced gravity, and explore interactive space activities. The exhibit is on loan from the Omaha Children’s Museum, which partnered with NASA to develop the display. The exhibit is located at the Youth Museum of Southern West Virginia.

Beckley Parks and Recreation Director Leslie Baker says the museum has a long history of bringing in traveling exhibits. Baker tells MetroNews the museum has hosted more than 125 displays since opening in 1977. She says rotating exhibits two to three times a year keeps it fresh for youngsters.

The museum is currently open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 to 5. Beginning April 1, it will be open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
