Mount Gay man in Jail for DUI causing death

SHAMROCK A man is in jail for driving under the influence and causing another man’s death Tuesday morning

According to the Cora Volunteer Fire Department, a two vehicle crash occurred on Holden Road near the Cora Bridge.

Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene before five o’clock Tuesday morning. Deputies say a black Chevrolet Silverado was parked sideways, in the middle of the road, and crossing the center line in the opposite direction of travel. According to the criminal complaint, a silver Toyota Echo in the opposite lane had received substantial damage and ejected the driver approximately forty feet over the creek embankment. Police identified the driver as David Trammell.

The crash closed Holden Road from the Shamrock Bridge to the Cora Bridge (Logan Heights Road). Traffic was redirected through Shamrock Bottom.

According to the complaint, Logan County 911 advised the deputies the driver told paramedics he had been drinking. Police followed up with the Silverado driver at the hospital. Identified as 72-year-old Eddie Lee Bailey, of Mount Gay, police say he reeked of alcohol. Bailey allegedly told police he consumed six or seven beers and was on his way home from Whitman Creek at the time of the wreck.

Bailey was placed under arrest and charged with DUI causing death, a felony.

Logan County Magistrate Joe Mendez set bond at $100,000 cash only. Bailey is currently in custody at the Southwestern Regional Jail at Holden. He faces three to fifteen years in prison if convicted.
