Murphy, Perry combine to no-hit Lady Hillbillies

MAN LaTosha Perry and Chloe Murphy pitched a combined no-hitter to lead Chapmanville to a 5-0 win over county rival and Class A No. 9 Man Monday evening at Man High School.

Perry pitched three innings and allowed two walks while recording one strikeout. Murphy pitched four innings walking one and striking out 10 to earn the win in relief for the Lady Tigers.

Peyton Lusk walked in the second inning, Melody Rozzell drew a walk in the third and Morgan Cooper walked to lead off the seventh for Man's only baserunners of the evening.

Man had an opportunity to break a scoreless tie in the third when Rozzell drew a leadoff walk off Perry. Zoey Jackson sacrificed Rozzell to second and Kylie Blevins' groundout to short moved Rozzell to third with two outs before Perry got McKinlee Cline to ground out to second to end the inning.

Man never threatened the rest of the game as Murphy took over in the circle to start the fourth inning for Chapmanville and struck out 10 of the 13 batters she faced in the Lady Hillbillies lineup.

While Perry and Murphy were in control in the circle for Chapmanville, Evy Altizer and Hannah Miller provided the Lady Tigers with all the offense they would need.

Altizer went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and Miller was 1-for-2 with a triple and two RBIs.

Altizer doubled off Cooper to leadoff the fifth inning and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Following a Cooper strikeout of Perry, Miller broke a scoreless tie with a sacrifice bunt to plate Altizer with the first run of the contest giving Chapmanville a 1-0 lead.

The game remained 1-0 through six innings before the Lady Tigers plated four runs in the top of the seventh.

Just like she did in the fifth, Altizer led off the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second by Perry before coming around to score on Miller's triple to extend the Lady Tigers lead to 2-0.

Miller scored on Emma Muncy's double to make it 3-0. Parks drove in Muncy with a run-scoring single to make it 4-0 and Brooke Christian singled to drive in Parks with the final run of the seventh making it 5-0.

Christian and Parks each had two hits and one RBI for Chapmanville, Muncy doubled and drove in a run and Murphy and Erica Sigmon had one hit each for the Lady Tigers.

Cooper allowed five runs on 10 hits, two walks and struck out 10 in seven innings in the circle for Man.

Chapmanville (8-3) has won six of its last seven games and will travel to Herbert Hoover Tuesday afternoon. The sixth-ranked Lady Huskies have won the last four Class AA championships. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Man (4-3), who has lost three of its last five games, will host Point Pleasant at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
