Murphy strikes out 18 in Lady Tigers 12-inning win over Lady Skyhawks

DANVILLE Chloe Murphy struck out 18 as Chapmanville moved one step closer to a sectional championship defeating Scott 6-4 in 12 innings in the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 tournament at Lick Creek Park.


Chapmanville (16-9) advances to the championship to be played on Tuesday, May 10, against either Logan or Scott.


The winner of the Logan-Scott game, to be played Monday, May 9, will have to defeat Chapmanville twice in order to win the sectional championship.


Scott advanced with a victory over Mingo Central Tuesday night while Chapmanville defeated Logan Monday night to advance.


Chapmanville led Scott 4-3 in the 11th inning; however, Scott’s Jayden Elkins tied the contest with a solo home run sending the game to a 12th inning.


In the 12th, Erin Adkins doubled to score Brooke Christian with the go-ahead run and Murphy added a sacrifice fly to score Adkins and give Chapmanville a 6-4 lead.


Adkins and Murphy each had three hits for Chapmanville and Claire Dingess added two hits for the victorious Lady Tigers.


Abigail Cook, Elkins and Natalie Green each had two hits for the Lady Skyhawks.


Tatum Halley struck out nine in 11 2/3 innings for Scott and Cambri Barker struck out the only batter she faced.


Scott (18-9) will face Logan (12-15) in an elimination game Monday evening. Each team won on its home diamond with Scott winning 7-1 at Lick Creek Park while Logan was victorious 12-3 at Bea Orr Field.
