Nitro hands Logan third straight loss, 8-3

NITRO   Luke Buckner had two hits including a double and three RBIs to lead Nitro to an 8-3 win over Logan Friday night at Nitro.


Luke Gordon, Devon Hatfield and Jake Synder each had one hit and one RBI for the victorious Wildcats, who have won three of their last four games.


Logan jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning when Chase Hatfield singled to score Cole Blankenship with the first run for Logan. Hatfield scored on a wild pitch to make it a 2-0.


Nitro answered with five runs in the bottom of the second inning to take a 5-2 lead. Barrett Vancamp scored on a wild pitch for Nitro's first run cutting the deficit to 2-1. Michael Thor scored on a wild pitch to even the score at 2 and Gordon doubled to give Nitro a 3-2 lead. Hatfield singled to make it 4-2 and Buckner doubled for a 5-2 lead.


In the bottom of the fourth, Buckner reached on an error allowing Brody Whitman to score increasing Nitro's advantage to 6-2.


Logan got a run in the sixth when Hatfield singled to plate Alton Ellis and cut the deficit to 6-3 before Nitro plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth getting run scoring hits from Buckner and Synder.


Buckner picked up the win for Nitro after allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out nine and walked four.


Cross Conn was the losing pitcher for Logan. He allowed five runs on four hits, struck out three and walked two in two innings.


Hatfield had two hits and two RBIs for Logan. Ellis and Ivan Miller had a double each and Adam Baisden, Cole Blankenship and Luke Blankenship each had one hit.


Logan lost its third straight game to fall to 2-3 and will return to action Tuesday in the Mingo Bay Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina against Lewis County.
