CHAPMANVILLE Chris Ross threw three touchdowns and Dylan Vance ran for two scores as Class AA No. 7 Mingo Central defeated Chapmanville 50-6 on Oct. 27 at Barker Stadium.

The Miners improved to 7-2 on the season and can secure a spot in the top eight, ensuing them of one home playoff game, with a win over Class A Mount View tonight at Miner Stadium.

Chapmanville fell to 4-5 on the year and was all but eliminated from postseason contention. The Tigers need a win over county rival Man tonight and losses by several others to sneak into the top 16 for a second consecutive season.

After taking an 8-0 lead on Vance’s 7-yard run with 4:57 to play in the opening quarter, the Miners scored 28 points in the second quarter and led 36-0 at halftime.

Vance started the scoring with a 53-yard touchdown run with 10:36 to play before halftime. Ross hooked up with Aidan Burke for a 61-yard touchdown pass with 3:27 to play. Burke added a 76-yard punt return and Sheppard returned an interception 52-yards to close out the second quarter scoring.

Ross hooked up with Sheppard for touchdowns covering 4 and 77 yards in the third quarter as the Miners led 50-0 after three quarters.

Ross completed 9 of 13 passes for 277 yards, threw three touchdowns and was intercepted twice. Sheppard had four catches for 133 yards and Burke had one catch for 61 yards. Vance rushed for 72 yards on eight carries, scored twice and caught two passes for 42 yards.

Austin Killen scored on a 1-yard as time expired in the fourth quarter for Chapmanville’s only touchdown.

Nate Easterling completed 7 of his 13 passes for 33 yards and one interception. Ehvin Strange was 2 of 2 passing for 42 yards. Jett Baisden had one catch for 42 yards, Austin Adkins hauled in three receptions for 14 yards and Keldon Lucas had one catch for 14 yards.

Jeremy Collins rush for 18 yards on 10 carries and Andrew Topping carried the ball seven times for 12 yards. Adkins and Talan Thompson each had an interception.

Chapmanville, who has lost two of three coming off its bye week, can wrap a second consecutive Logan County Championship with a win over Man tonight.

Playoffs or no playoffs, the Tigers want to close out the regular season with a win and carry that momentum into next season.
