Officer Involved Shooting In Mingo County

Multiple police investigations are underway following a fatal officer involved shooting.

A pursuit started in the Kimper area of Pike County when Kentucky State Police identified a stolen flatbed truck from Mingo County.


West Virginia State Police have identified the driver as 27-year-old Robert Lee Daniels, Jr. of Freeburn, Ky.


Kentucky Trooper say Daniels struck a police cruiser while fleeing the scene.


Kentucky Troopers pursued Daniels through Pike County to the county line with Mingo. County deputies in Mingo joined the pursuit.


According to reports, the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department first reported the officer involved shooting around seven o’clock Tuesday evening near the communities of Lynn and Edgarton.


A press release from the Mingo County Sheriff’s Office on social media confirmed the deceased was one of the suspects involved with the stolen truck.


West Virginia Troopers confirmed Daniels was pronounced dead at the scene.


A second person has been arrested stemming from the pursuit.


West Virginia State Police are investigating the officer involved shooting.


Kentucky State Police, Mingo County Deputies, Pike County Deputies, the Matewan Police and the Norfolk and Southern Police are all assisting the investigation of the pursuit.
