PIKEVILLE  Pike County officials have canceled a contract to study the possibility of building a landfill. in the community of Myra.


The Pike County Fiscal Court voted Tuesday (3/3/26) to breach its agreement with American Land Reserve, LLC. Judge-Executive Ray Jones opposed the move, saying it leaves the county without a clear plan to deal with limited landfill capacity.


County leaders say the current landfill may have five to six years of space remaining.


More than 20 residents spoke during the meeting, many supporting the decision to cancel the contract while raising concerns about possible environmental impacts and how the proposal was handled.
