A pair of intentional fires in the Omar area were reported Monday night and Tuesday morning.

First, the old Shaheen’s grocery building was initially reported for a smoke investigation around eight o’clock Monday night.

Firefighters discovered fires with multiple points of origin and quickly extinguished the flames.

A second fire was reported around six o’clock Tuesday morning at the old Schaffer Chapel located near the Dugout Bridge at Omar. The church was unoccupied and regular services have not been conducted in years.

Fire fighters report the second blaze started on the backside of the church and spread through voids in the ceiling and roof. Building is considered a total loss.

Main Island Creek Volunteer Fire Department was assisted by the City of Logan Fire Department to knock out the flames.

No injuries were reported at either fire and both are considered intentional, according to firefighters.
