LOGAN One person is dead following an early morning house fire in Logan County.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were dispatched at approximately 7:58 a.m. on Tuesday to a reported structure fire at 71 Chipmunk Trail in the community of Peach Creek.

When deputies arrived on scene, the home was already fully engulfed in flames. Authorities were advised that a resident may still have been inside the house.

Firefighters from the Logan Fire Department and the Henlawson Volunteer Fire Department responded and were able to bring the fire under control. Crews then conducted a search of the home, where they discovered the body of the homeowner.

The victim has been identified as 59-year-old Linda Gay Adkins, who officials say died as a result of the fire.

Family members were notified at the scene, and Adkins was transported to the West Virginia Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to investigate the cause of the fire, and the Logan County Sheriff’s Department will assist with the investigation.

No further information has been released at this time.
