One killed in Boone County house fire

One person was pronounced dead at the scene following a fire in Boone County over the weekend.


One person was found dead Saturday near the front door of a home in the Van area following a house fire. The victim's identity has not yet been released while the investigation continues.

VAN The fire was reported just after 5:15 a.m. Saturday near Van High School Road and Route 85. According to the Van Volunteer Fire Department, firefighters arrived to find heavy fire coming from a two-story home.


Crews brought the blaze under control in about 15 minutes. According to firefighters, one victim was found just inside the front door of the residence once crews were able to make entry.


No additional details about the victim have been released.


The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the West Virginia State Fire Marshal's Office.
