Prep Roundup: Logan Breaks Century Mark; Man Continues To Make History & Lady Tigers Rally For Win


WAYNE- After handing Class AAA No. 1 Fairmont Senior its first loss of the season on Monday, Class AAA No. 3 Logan avoided a letdown less than 48 hours later to defeat Wayne 101-65 Wednesday night at Wayne High School.

Julius Clancy and Jackson Tackett each had 17 points to lead six Wildcats in double figures as Logan reached triple digits for the first time since defeating Sissonville 101-63 on Dec. 7, 2018.

Scotty Browning had 14, Aiden Slack and Garrett Williamson 12 each and Cole Blankenship 10 as Logan shot 55.4 percent from the field on 36-of-65 field goal attempts. The Wildcats were 12-of-32 from 3-point range and converted on 17-of-22 free throw attempts.

Williamson had a team-high six of Logan’s 22 assists and Tackett had eight rebounds and Blankenship seven boards as the Wildcats outrebounded Wayne 38-26.

Ryan Maynard led Wayne with 20 points. Dillon May had 14, Isaac Meddings 13 and Ronnie Staley 12 for the Pioneers.

Wayne, who started the season 5-0 but has lost 11 of its last 13, dropped to 7-11 with the loss. The Pioneers will host Nitro Tuesday.

Logan improves to 14-1 and will travel to Class AA No. 7 Chapmanville Regional on Friday.

Tuesday’s Boys High School Basketball

Man 74, Wyoming East 60: The Man Hillbillies continue to make history and Tuesday night they recorded the school’s first ever victory at Wyoming East High School.

It was Man’s first victory in Wyoming County since defeating Oceana 69-67 on Jan. 30, 2001. Since then, the Hillbillies have never won at Westside High School and were winless at Wyoming East until Tuesday night’s 74-60 victory over the Class AA eighth ranked Warriors.

Jeremiah Harless had 29 points and Aden Martin 25 points as Class A No. 3 Man won for the ninth consecutive time and improved to 13-2 on the season.

Tucker Cook was one of five Warriors in double figures with 13 points. Garrett Mitchell and Jacob Howard each had 12, Chandler Johnson 11 and Cole Lambert 10.

Wyoming East has lost three consecutive games and four of its last five games. The Warriors are 7-9 on the season and will host Liberty (Raleigh) on Friday.

Man will be action in action Thursday at Van.

Tuesday’s Girls High School Basketball

Chapmanville Regional 47, Sissonville 43: Class AA No. 10 Chapmanville Regional outscored Sissonville 29-16 in the second half to turn a nine-point halftime deficit into a 47-43 come from behind victory over the Lady Tigers Tuesday night at Danny Godby Gymnasium.

The Lady Tigers moved to 9-10 with the victory while the Lady Indians dropped to 7-9.

Chapmanville struggled from the field in the second quarter and made just two field goal attempts. Sissonville, on the other hand, was able to knock down four 3’s in the quarter to outscore the Lady Tigers 17-4 in the second quarter erasing a 14-10 first quarter deficit.

Facing a 27-18 first half deficit, the Lady Tigers gradually cut into the Lady Indians lead and trailed 37-34 after three quarters of play.

The fourth quarter was all Chapmanville as they outscored Sissonville 13-6 to complete the comeback.

Daizi Farley led the Lady Tigers with 14 while Haley Fleming added 13 points.

Madison McCutcheon scored a game-high 17 points and Kynadee Britton 14 for Sissonville.

The Lady Indians will host Class AAA No. 5 Nitro on Saturday while Chapmanville will host former sectional rival Scott for Senior Night Thursday.
