Putney, Barnett lead Point Pleasant to 14-5 win over Chapmanville

POINT PLEASANT Class AAA No. 7 Point Pleasant used a four-run fourth inning to break open a close game and pull away from Chapmanville Wednesday night in the Class AAA Region 4 tournament.
The fourth-seeded Tigers (9-16) pulled to within one run, 5-4, following a three-run third inning, but the top-seeded Big Blacks (18-9) plated four fourth inning runs to take an 9-4 lead.
Chapmanville added a run in the sixth to pull back within four runs, 9-5, but Point Pleasant put the game away with five runs in the sixth inning.
Gavin Barnett, Zak Jordan and Trycen Putney combined for nine of the Big Blacks 16 hits. Putney had three doubles, drove in four and scored twice, Barnett had three hits, three RBIs and three runs and Jordan finished with three hits, two of the three were doubles, drove in two and crossed the plate twice.
Carrsen Lambert allowed five runs on seven hits in five innings to earn the win. He struck out seven and walked three and had two hits to go along with one RBI at the plate.
Jacob Vance took the loss for Chapmanville, allowing 12 runs - eight earned - on 14 hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out one and walked three and was 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs.
Talan Pearson had two hits and two RBIs and Carson Finnicum had two hits and one RBI for the Big Blacks.
Braylon Moore had two hits, and Gunner Lucas, Jaxon Topping and Peyton Dingess each had one hits and one RBI for the Tigers.
Chapmanville hosts Nitro in an elimination game Thursday with the winner traveling to Point Pleasant Friday. The Big Blacks need just one win to advance to the Class AAA Region 4 championship series, which is scheduled to start May 26.
