Rose drives in five, Man Little League mercy rules Welch

LOGAN Robert Rose had an inside the park grand slam and drove in five runs and the Man Little League scored 10 fourth inning runs to mercy rule Welch 19-9 in four innings in the West Virginia District 2 Major Little League Baseball Tournament Saturday afternoon at the Chief Logan Recreational Center.
Rose also had three hits, including a pair of doubles and scored twice to lead Man’s 11-hitt attack. Xander Bunch had three hits, Braylon Dotson two hits, Parker Conn tripled and Chandler Morgan and Layson Morgan each had one hit.
Man scored 10 runs in the fourth inning to advance to face Logan at 1 p.m. Sunday in one of two winner’s bracket games while Welch will face Pineville in an elimination game at 5 p.m. Sunday evening.
Welch, who had just one hit, took advantage of 13 walks issued by Man pitching, including a combined 11 free passes in the second and fourth innings.
Down 9-6 entering the fourth, Welch plated three runs to knot the score, 9-9, heading to the bottom of the fourth.
Dotson led off the fourth for Man with a single and came around to score on Rose’s second double of the game to give Man a 10-9 lead. Walks, wild pitches and passed balls helped Man built its lead throughout the inning that saw Conn drove in two with a triple and Chandler Morgan added an RBI bunt single.
Levi Carter retired the only two batters he faced in the fourth to pick up the win in relief for Man.
Grayson Toler picked up the loss after allowing six runs on one hit with five walks, three strikeouts and one hit batter in 1 1/3 innings for Welch.
Ethan Adkins had a third inning single for Welch’s only hit. Jayson Carlson, Gibson, Jayce Jones and Taylor each had one RBI.
