NEWTOWN A fiery crash between a service truck and a school bus killed one person and injured eight others Tuesday morning in Mingo County.
According to the Mingo County Sheriff's Department, the accident occurred around 7 a.m. when a Mingo County school bus, transporting students to Mingo Central High School, crashed into a service truck on U.S. Route 52 between James H. "Buck" Harless Stadium and Mingo Central High School.
The name of the truck driver killed in the head on collision has not been released.
Mingo County school officials confirm that seven students and the bus driver were transported to a local hospital with nonlife threatening injuries. Five of the students were being transported to Mingo Central High School and two others to another school.
The West Virginia State Police and the Mingo County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the crash and volunteer fire departments from Matewan and Delbarton responded to the crash.
