State of Emergency declared in all 55 counties of West Virginia

West Virginia Governor Patrick Morrisey has declared a State of Emergency for all 55 counties after severe storms caused flooding and damage across the state Tuesday.

According to Governor Patrick Morrisey's Office, a State of Preparedness issued early Tuesday was upgraded to a State of Emergency for all 55 West Virginia counties later in the evening following severe storms, flooding and reported tornado activity across the Mountain State.

CHARLESTON The governor said the declaration will allow state agencies to quickly coordinate personnel and resources for communities affected by the storms.

Lewis, Pleasants and Upshur counties reported the most significant flood damage.

The worst part of the storm system shifted eastward before the full impact could be felt in Logan and nearby southern counties, though Governor Morrisey has officially asked the White House this week for a federal disaster declaration in Logan and Boone counties following severe storms and flooding in June.

Governor Morrisey is urging residents to stay off flooded roadways, monitor local weather forecasts and follow instructions from emergency officials. He had issued a State of Preparedness earlier Tuesday before the storms moved into the state.

The State of Emergency will remain in effect for 30 days unless it is lifted sooner.
