Tigers improve to 2-0 with 24-14 road win over Dots

POCA Robert Cook threw for 169 yards and two touchdowns as Chapmanville defeated Poca 24-14 last Friday Bob Lemley Field at O.O. White Stadium.


The touchdowns came in the second quarter after Poca had taken a 7-3 lead on Peyton Cook’s 28-yard touchdown pass to Landon Aldridge with 10:35 to play before halftime.


Cook threw 44-yard touchdown pass to Austin Adkins with 8:04 remaining and a 27-yard touchdown to Andrew Topping with 5:26 to play in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 17-7 lead.


Poca cut the deficit to 17-14 with 1:33 to play in the first half when Jackson McClanahan recovered a Preston Bonnett fumble in the end zone.


Chapmanville scored its final touchdown in the fourth quarter when Jeremy Collins ran in from 12 yards out to give the Tigers a 24-14 lead with 7:41 remaining.


Jonathan Ferrell kicked a 32-yard field goal with 3:36 remaining in the first quarter to give Chapmanville a 3-0 lead.


Adkins led Chapmanville on the ground with 59 rushing yards on nine carries while Collins added 40 yards on seven carries. Cook completed 13 of his 16 passes with Adkins hauling in five receptions for 81 yards while Topping also catch five passes for 79 yards.


Preston Bonnett ran for 156 yards on 27 carries and Cook completed 7 of 15 passes for 87 yards for the Dots. Hunter Tusing caught three passes for 36 yards and Aldridge had two catches for 29 yards.


Poca will host Buffalo this evening while Chapmanville will open its home portion of the 2023 schedule against reigning Cardinal Conference champion Winfield.
