CHAPMANVILLE After dropping their last two games to ranked opponents, the Chapmanville Tigers jumped into the top 16 of the latest West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission Class AA playoff.
The Tigers (4-3), fresh off a 26-21 win at Wayne last Friday, jumped three spots into a tie for 16th. The Tigers share the 16th position with Weir, who jumped four spots after defeating Albert Gallatin (PA) last Friday.
Chapmanville, who has not made the playoffs since 2015, will have a chance to jump in next week’s ratings with a win over county rival Logan Friday night at Barker Stadium.
Logan (6-2) will enter Friday’s contest ranked 11th in Class AA. The Wildcats fell two spots despite a win over Liberty (Raleigh) last week.
With a win Friday night over Chapmanville, Logan can clinch a playoff berth for the first time in nine seasons when they qualified for the Class AAA playoffs.
The Man Hillbillies saw their six-game winning streak snapped last week in a loss to Class AA No. 3 Independence and fell three spots to No. 11 in the latest Class A playoff ratings.
Man (6-2), who last made the playoffs in 2018, will be idle this week and can clinch a berth in the Class A field of 16 with a victory over Tug Valley next week.
Chapmanville and Logan are two of five Cardinal Conference schools ranked in the top 16 of Class AA. Joining No. 1 Scott, No. 5 Winfield and No. 13 Herbert Hoover.
The Skyhawks (7-0) are atop the Class AA rankings for a third consecutive week with Roane County second, Independence third, North Marion fourth and Winfield fifth.
Williamstown is No. 1 in Class A for the fourth straight week and is followed by Wheeling Central at No. 2, James Monroe at No. 3, Doddridge County at No. 4 and Cameron and Wahama currently tied for fifth.
Class AAA has a new No. 1 for the fourth straight week as Hurricane and Parkersburg South occupy the top spot with identical 12.86 ratings. Huntington is third, Spring Valley is fourth and Bridgeport is fifth in the state’s big school division.
