Tigers shutout Hillbillies to clinch first playoff berth since 2015

MAN Kohl Farmer ran for two scores, Adam Mullins caught two touchdowns and Brody Dalton passed for two as Class AA No. 12 Chapmanville clinched its first playoff berth in seven years with a 28-0 victory over Class A No. 9 Man Friday night at George A. Queen Memorial Field.


Farmer ran for 104 yards on 24 carries and scored on runs of 7 and 1 in a 21-point second quarter while Dalton completed 8 of 11 passes for 156 yards and Mullins hauled in three passes for 95 yards. Chapmanville improved to 7-3 overall and secured the 10th seed in next week's Class AA playoffs where the Tigers will face seventh seed Fairmont Senior (7-3) at East-West Stadium on Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.


Man dropped to 7-3 with the loss finishing 12th in the Class A ratings. The Hillbillies will hit the road for the opening round of the Class A playoffs as they face fifth seed Wheeling Central (8-1) at Wheeling University on Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.


Chapmanville clinched its first outright Logan County Championship in five years with the win over Man. The Tigers defeated Logan, 49-7, on Oct. 21 at Barker Stadium.


Chapmanville forced Man to punt on its opening possession, taking over at its own 19 and drove all the way to the Hillbilly 19 before turning the ball over on downs traveling 66 yards in a 17-play drive that chewed up 9:45 of the first quarter clock.


Man fumbled on the opening play of the second quarter and Charles Stallard recovered the loose pigskin at the Hillbilly 22.


Four plays later, Farmer ran in from 7-yards out with 10:31 remaining in the first half to give Chapmanville a 7-0 following Jonathan Ferrell's extra point kick.


On the ensuing kickoff, Chris Isaacs electrified the home crowd with what appeared to be an 83-yard kick return, however, the touchdown was called back after a holding penalty at the Man 34.


Man would march to the Chapmanville 18, however, the drive stalled as the Hillbillies turned the ball over on downs to the Tigers.


The Tigers needed just three plays as Farmer found Mullins for a 45-yard touchdown reception to made it 14-0 with 4:09 to play before halftime.


The Tigers added to its lead with a Farmer 1-yard touchdown with 0:24 remaining in the first half for a 21-0 lead.


Mullins' second touchdown, a 52-yard reception from Dalton, gave the Tigers a 28-0 with 9:19 to play in the fourth quarter.


Isaacs ran for 60 yards on four carries and caught two passes for 21 yards for Man. Jayden Brumfield ran for 45 yards on seven carries and completed 5 of 9 passes for 43 yards.
