W.Va. milk production down 1 million in 2020 compared to 2019


West Virginia milk production was down in the year 2020 as compared to the year 2019, according to a joint news release from the United States Department of Agriculture and the W.Va. Department of Agriculture.


Milk production totaled 89 million pounds in 2020. Last year’s total was down from the 90 million pounds produced in 2019.


The number of milk cows last year totaled 6,000 and is unchanged from 2019.


Cash receipts from milk markets totaled $15.2 million in 2020, down 6% from 2019 cash receipts.


Nationwide, milk markets hauled in over $40 billion in 2020
