MAN Wahama junior pitcher Mikie Lieving tossed a no-hitter as Wahama knocked off Man, 2-0, on Tuesday in the Class A Region 4 championship at Man High School.

Lieving allowed a two-out walk to Man’s Ashlee Tomblin in the first inning but retired the next 19 Lady Hillbillies in order striking out 17 in the win.

Amber Wolfe’s single in the fifth inning broke a scoreless tie scoring Lieving from third base. Lieving, who drew a one-out walk from Man starting pitcher Morgan Cooper, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before coming home to score on Wolfe’s single.

In the seventh inning, Lieving led off with a single and stole second and third and scored on Lauren Noble’s double to give the Lady White Falcons a 2-0 lead.

Wolfe went 2-for-3 with one RBI while Noble was 1-for-3 with a double and one RBI for Wahama. Morgan Christian was 2-for-2 and Lieving 1-for-3 with two runs and three stolen bases for the Lady White Falcons.

Man’s Morgan Cooper allowed two runs on six hits in seven innings. Cooper struck out 16 and walked five in the loss.

The best of three series shifts to Wahama on Wednesday. A Wahama victory puts the Lady White Falcons in next week’s Class A state tournament at Little Creek Park in Charleston. A Man victory would force a decisive third game at Man on Thursday.

Wahama improves to 25-2 on the year and has won six straight games since its last loss, 10-3, at Cabell Midland on April 27.

Man, who is 1-4 when scoring two runs or fewer, falls to 13-5.
