West Virginia PSC approves water utility acquisitions in Lincoln, Wyoming counties

Water utility customers in Lincoln and Wyoming counties can expect a change in their monthly bills after the Public Service Commission of West Virginia approved two separate acquisitions last week.

ALUM CREEK   The Lincoln County Public Service District is now officially part of West Virginia American Water.

The Public Service Commission of West Virginia approved the utility's $12.9 million purchase of the Lincoln County Public Service District on Friday, completing an acquisition that began in March.

PSC Chairman Charlotte R. Lane said the purchase is expected to provide Lincoln County customers with clean water and more reliable service.

The commission said customer rates will be adjusted in three phases over the next two years until they match those paid by other West Virginia American Water customers.

The Lincoln County Public Service District serves more than 2,500 customers, primarily in Lincoln County, with additional customers in parts of Boone and Kanawha counties.

Meanwhile in Wyoming County, water customers served by the Green Camp Community Water Association will soon become customers of the Town of Pineville after the PSC approved a joint petition allowing Green Camp to dissolve once the Brenton-Baileysville Waterline Extension Project is substantially complete.

Customers will receive notices explaining the transition and their new rates before service is transferred.

Under the approved rates, metered customers will pay $20 per 1,000 gallons for the first 3,000 gallons used each month. The next 7,000 gallons will cost $16.75 per 1,000 gallons, while usage above 10,000 gallons will be billed at $13.70 per 1,000 gallons.

The minimum monthly charge for a standard five-eighths-inch meter will be $60. Customers with non-metered service will pay a flat monthly rate of $85.13.
