CHARLESTON West Virginia recorded 1,229 new business registrations in July, according to the Secretary of State’s Office. The counties with the highest number of new businesses included Berkeley, Raleigh, Kanawha, Monongalia, Jefferson, and Cabell.

Of the total registrations, 178 businesses qualified for programs that waive initial registration fees. These include incentives for veterans, active-duty service members, military spouses, and business owners under the age of 30.

Between August 1, 2024, and July 31, 2025, West Virginia registered over 14,000 new businesses statewide. Clay County reported the highest growth rate among all 55 counties during that period, with a 20.15% increase.

The Secretary of State’s Office also reminds business owners that starting in September, it will begin revoking the registrations of businesses that haven’t filed their Annual Reports for three years. Reports can be submitted online at onestop.wv.gov.
