LOGAN A four-run second inning propelled Logan to a 6-3 victory over Cardinal Conference rival Winfield Friday night at Roger E. Gertz Field.

Winfield jumped on top of Logan with a run in the first and a run in the second before the Wildcats plated fours in the bottom of the second inning taking advantage of some control issues from starting pitcher Kaleb Henson.

Henson walked a batter, hit a batter, and issued an intentional pass to Logan in the second that allowed the Wildcats to score four runs on three hits.

With one out and runners on second and third, Winfield coach Will Isaacs intentionally walked Ryan Roberts to load the bases with one out.

The decision nearly worked as Henson got Jared Burette to strike out looking for the second out, but Carson Kirk wasted no time jumping on the first pitch from Henson, lining a single to left field to score Konner Lowe and Aiden Slack to tie the game at 2-2.

Korbin Bostic drew a two-out walk and Dawson Maynard singled to left to plate Roberts and Kirk giving Logan a 4-2 lead after two innings.

Brett Bumgarner led off the third with a double for Winfield and advanced to third on a pass ball before scoring on Grey Miller’s RBI groundout to bring Winfield to within one, 4-3, heading to the bottom of the third.

Bumgarner scored Winfield’s first run on a throwing error in the first inning for a 1-0 Generals lead and a sacrifice fly from Jaxson Cunningham plated Henson giving the Generals a 2-0 lead in the second inning.

Logan added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth as Roberts singled to center allowing Lowe to score from third for a 5-3 lead after three innings.

Jake Ramey’s run-scoring single in the fourth plated Maynard with sixth Logan run extending the Wildcats advantage to 6-3 after five innings.

Jared Burnette earned the win after tossing 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief of starter Chad Burnette. Jared Burnette allowed one hit, walked one and struck out seven. Chad Burnette allowed three runs, two earned, on four hits, walked five and struck out three in 3 1/3 innings.

Henson was saddled with the loss for Winfield after allowing six runs, five earned on six hits in 3 1/3 innings. Henson struck out one, walked two, was credited with two intentional walks and hit two batters. Jon Alderman pitched 2 2/3 of scoreless baseball allowing just two hits, striking out two and hitting two batters.

Bumgarner had two hits including a double and scored two runs for Winfield. Miller had a hit and drove in one run while Brayton Boggs and Henson each had one hit with Cunningham driving in one run for the Generals.

Kirk had two hits and drove in two runs while Maynard had a hit to go along with two RBIs for Logan. Bostic doubled and tripled while Ramey and Roberts each had one hit and one RBI and Lowe had a double and scored twice for the Wildcats.
