Wildcats Hold Off Miners In Wednesday Night Action

In high school basketball action, the Logan Wildcats continued to roll last night as they won their ninth game in their last ten outings to improve to 11-4 on the season, as they knocked off the Mingo Central Miners 60-53 from Willie Akers Arena.

With the score tied at 10-10 in the first quarter, Logan used their pressure defense to blitz the Miners and go on a 21-6 run before Mingo closed the half on a 7-0 run to give Logan a 31-23 advantage going into halftime.

In the third quarter the Wildcats appeared to be on the verge of running the Miners off the floor when they extended their lead as high as seventeen points midway through the period, but Mingo Central refused to go away. On the strength of Ethan Evans game-high 16 points sliced the gap to 54-50 with under two minutes to play.

Logan would put the game away at the free-throw line in order to secure their season sweep over their old rivals, and win their seventh in a row over the Miners.

Sophomore Garrett Williamson led the way for the Wildcats, as he closed the game with 15 points.

Logan will next host the Herbert Hoover Huskies this Saturday. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
