Wildcats shutout Irish in regional tuneup game, 5-0

LOGAN Jake Ramey had four hits, Garrett Williamson drove in two runs and seven pitchers combined on a three-hit shutout to Logan to a 5-0 victory over Charleston Catholic in a battle second-ranked teams Thursday evening at Roger E. Gertz Field.


Ramey went 4-for-4 with a double, Dawson Maynard added a run scoring triple and Konner Lowe had one RBI for the second ranked Class AA Wildcats, who have won 11 straight games and 14 of their last 15.


Gannon Morris had a double and Jeff Reynolds and Gage Tawney each had a single for the second ranked Class A Irish.


Both Logan and Charleston Catholic won its sectional championship to set up a regional tune game, which the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission allows teams that qualify for regional tournaments to schedule games between tournaments if they have not played the maximum 32 regular season games.


Charleston Catholic, the reigning Class A champion, won the Class A Region 3 Section 2 championship and will host James Monroe Monday in the first game of a best of three games series format in the Class A Region 3 championship.


Logan, who has won the last two Class AA championships, won the Class AA Region 4 Section 2 championship, and will host fourth-ranked Winfield Monday at Roger E. Gertz Field in game one.


Seven pitchers tossed one inning each and gave up three while striking out eight and walking four in the win. Maynard started for Logan and tossed one scoreless inning and struck out one for the win.


Jarron Glick relieved Maynard in the second and allowed one hit and struck out one. Ryan Roberts took over in the third allowing one hit while striking out two and walking one before Lowe struck out two in a perfect fourth inning.


Aiden Slack and Ivan Miller each walked one in their one inning of work and Williamson allowed one hit, struck out two and walked one in his inning of work.


Charleston Catholic starter Morris gave up two runs on two hits in three innings. He struck out one, hit one and walked one. Conner Jarvis allowed two runs on four hits and walked one in two innings while Luke Blaydes surrendered one run on two hits and struck out two in one inning.


McCormick Ilderton scored on Williamson’s groundout in the first to give Logan a 1-0 lead.


Lowe’s groundout in the second scored Slack giving the Wildcats a 2-0 lead.

The score remained 2-0 in favor of Logan until the Wildcats plated two runs in the fifth and one more in the sixth to close out the scoring.


Williamson doubled in the fifth to plate Ilderton for a 3-0 lead and Chase Hatfield scored on a Jarvis balk to extend the lead to 4-0.


Maynard tripled in the sixth to score Ilderton for the third time and put the Wildcats out in front, 5-0, heading to the seventh.


Ilderton scored three runs, Slack had a double and Miller a single for the Wildcats.
