WVSSAC Ratings: Hillbillies climb to 18th in Class A, Wildcats still 19th in Class AA

Bill Lusk | WVOW Sports

PARKERSBURG A pair of local schools remain ranked in the latest West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission high school football playoff ratings released Tuesday afternoon.

Coming off their bye weeks, both Logan and Man remained ranked in the top 20 of their respective classes Tuesday.

Man is 18th in Class A, up two spots from last week, while Logan remained 19th in Class AA.

With five weeks remaining in the regular season, both the Hillbillies and Wildcats have a little bit of work to do if they plan on cracking the top 16 and qualifying for the postseason.

Man (2-3) will look to snap a three-game losing streak Friday night when they travel to seventh-ranked Sherman (3-1). The Tide is coming off a win over previously second-ranked River View, handing the Raiders their first loss of the season.

Logan (2-3), losers of two straight, travels to 15th-ranked Scott (3-2), who has won three of four games since falling to Wayne in its season opener.

Since debuting in the Class A poll at No. 11, Man dropped to 17th and 20th the following two weeks before rising to 18th in this week's set of rankings.

Logan was ranked 22nd in the first set of rankings released after week three, but jumped nine spots to 13th following its upset win over then fourth-ranked Poca three weeks ago, but a loss to Winfield dropped the Wildcats to 19th, which is where they remain for a second straight week.

Chapmanville, who has lost five in a row, remained 24th for the third consecutive week following a loss to Class AAA No. 4 Herbert Hoover. The Tigers are off this week before traveling out Wayne in two weeks to face the AA fourth-ranked Pioneers.

For the second straight week, all four number ones remained the same in Class A through Class AAAA.

Tug Valley, who has been a top of the rankings for three weeks, leads the way in Class A with Frankfort and Fairmont Senior, both of which have been on top for two weeks, a top of the Class AA and AAA rankings while Spring Mills continues to lead the Class AAAA rankings.

The Cardinals, who have been atop the Class AAAA rankings since their initial release four weeks ago, have yet to allow a single point in six games this season and is outscoring the competition 297-0.

Wahama (6-0, 9.33) is second in Class A followed by Tucker County (6-0, 8.17), Valley (Wetzel) (5-0, 8.00) and River View (4-1, 7.36).

Roane County (6-0, 12.33) is second in Class AA with Williamstown (6-0, 11.33), Wayne (4-1, 10.08), and Westside (5-0, 10.00) rounding out the top five.

Following its win over Winfield, Princeton (6-0, 14.17) and Bridgeport (6-0, 14.00) swapped the second and third spots with Herbert Hoover (5-0, 12.60) fourth and North Marion (4-1, 11.64) fifth.

Martinsburg (6-0, 16.00) continues to hold the second spot in Class AAAA with Wheeling Park (4-2, 14.37), up one to third, Parkersburg South (4-1, 14.20) falls to fourth and Huntington (4-1, 13.00) jumping two spots to fifth.
