Active cases lowest in 3 months & no red counties today


According to the county alert map released by the Department of Health and Human Resources, West Virginia has no red counties today.


Last week marked the first full week without red counties in months.


Green counties outnumber all other categories on the map today. In all, 25 counties are green including Wyoming and McDowell.


Eleven counties are yellow including Kanawha, Mingo and Wayne.


Nine counties are gold including Logan and Boone.

Ten counties are orange including Lincoln.


An additional 238 cases of COVID-19 were confirmed today.


West Virginia has 8,795 active cases of coronavirus.


Governor Justice, during his virtual conference on virus response, said today is the first time in three months active cases fell below 9,000.

"This is the first time that we have been below 9,000 active cases since November 12," Justice said. "That's good."


The update on COVID-19 infections is the 36th straight day of decline for the virus.


Fifteen West Virginians have died since Friday. Two fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours. Since the onset of the outbreak, 2,263 people in the Mountain State have succumbed to coronavirus.


Today’ daily positive infection rate is 4.84%.


W.Va. has administered 269,670 doses of the first round of vaccine. As of 10 o’clock this morning, 166,272 residents have received both rounds of shots
