WAYNE Addie Adkins scored 24 points and tied a school record for 3-pointers in a game with eight as second-ranked Wayne never trailed and defeated Logan 68-30 in the Class AAA Region 4 Section 2 championship Friday night at Wayne High School.
Adkins eight 3's ties the record that freshman Jayce Sammons set earlier this season.
Sammons, who scored 11 points Friday night, knocked down eight 3's in a 67-39 win over Springdale (MD) Prep on December 29 at Garrett (MD) College.
Adkins, who is the school's all-time girls 3-point career leader, tied the mark in the fourth quarter with her third 3 of the quarter. As a team, the Lady Pioneers hit 13 3's and captured their second consecutive sectional championship.
The Lady Pioneers (21-1) forced nine Lady Wildcat turnovers in the opening quarter and led 18-4 after one quarter. Logan, who tied the contest at 2 on Addyson Amick's short jumper with 7:18 remaining, would go nearly seven minutes without a point as Wayne went on a 14-0 run.
Logan trailed by 18 points with under five minutes to play before halftime, but managed to cut the gap to 12 points, 26-14, on a Michel'A Sawn basket with 3:14 to play.
Wayne led 34-17 at halftime after Adkins drilled a 30-foot 3-pointer with 10 seconds remaining in the first half.
Mikayla Stacy had 12 points for Wayne and Laneigh Brooks and Brooke Adkins scored nine and seven points respectively.
Kinley Steele led Logan with eight points, Amick, Bam Mosby and Jayden Meade each had six points.
Wayne will host Ripley (13-11) in one of two Class AAA Region 4 championship games Wednesday night while Logan (13-11) will travel to fourth-ranked Nitro (21-3) the same night.
The two winners will advance to the Class AAA State Tournament in Charleston, which is scheduled to begin March 6.
