BUFFALO Myleigh Adkins continued her complete and utter dominance in the circle propelling the Logan Lady Wildcats to its first state tournament appearance in 13 seasons Tuesday night at Darrell Moore Field.
Adkins was utterly dominant of the Bison batters and got more than enough run support than she needed as she tossed a no-hitter to help the top ranked Lady Wildcats close out the Class AA Region 4 championship with a dominating 14-0 run-rule victory in five innings.
Adkins allowed a leadoff to Buffalo's Cami Samples, but rallied to strike out the next nine hitters on her way to striking out 13 in what may have been her best performance in the circle this season.
Buffalo only put two balls in play Tuesday night, one off the bat of Morgan Cobb, a fly ball that was caught by first baseman Charlie Albright in the fourth inning.
With one out in the fifth inning, Acelynn Casto hit a sharp grounder up the middle that was destined for centerfield and would have been the Bison's first hit of evening, if not for a sliding stop by second baseman Addison Richardson, who got to her feet quickly and threw to Albright for the second out preserving Adkins' no-hit bid.
Adkins needed just three pitches to strikeout Sophie Hawkins to set off a mob scene in the circle as she was mobbed by her teammates after recording the final out.
With the win, Logan advances to next week's Class AA state softball tournament at South Charleston's Little Creek Park. The Lady Wildcats will play Region 3 winner Liberty (Raleigh) on Wednesday approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of Wednesday's first semifinal between Region 1 winner Oak Glen and Region 2 winner Petersburg, which starts at 9:30 a.m.
Behind Adkins, who struck out the side in three of the five innings, the Lady Wildcats put up 14 runs and pounded out 15 hits including a pair of home runs; a two-run shot off the bat of Ashlin Brumfield, her second in as many nights, in the second inning, and a three-run shot from Adkins in the third.
Logan took control early jumping on Buffalo for four runs in the top of the first and didn't stop there. The Lady Wildcats scored in every inning but the fifth; scoring three runs each in the second and third and plated four more in the fourth.
Brumfield went 1-for-3 with four RBIs and Adkins was 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Logan. Nine different players had at least one hit with Lauren Adkins and Melody Rozzell each going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
Adkins had two doubles while Rozzell had a trio of singles. Emilee Mullins was 2-for-4 with one RBI, Richardson went 1-for-3 and drove in one run and Albright finished 1-for-1 with a double and one RBI.
Logan also got one hit each from Lacy Curry and Daisy Tomblin.
Brumfield started the scoring with an RBI squeeze bunt to score Curry with the game's first run. Laurn Adkins singled to score Tomblin and Rozzell finished the inning with a two-run single to drive in Adkins and Richardson for a 4-0 lead in the first.
Brumfield once again started the scoring in the top of the second with a two-run home run to give Logan a 6-0 lead. Three batters later, Mullins singled to make it 7-0.
Myleigh Adkins hit a three-run home run in the Lady Wildcats third inning to extend the lead to 10-0.
In the fourth, Albright walked with the bases loaded extending the Lady Wildcats lead to 11-0. Following a pair of fly outs, Brumfield reached on a fielder's choice to score Kennedie Brewer. Lauren Adkins walked with the bases loaded and Richardson singled to finish the scoring.
