Baisden, Green combine for five touchdowns as Hillbillies roll past Warriors

NEW RICHMOND Dusten Baisden and Jim Green scored five of Man’s seven touchdowns as the Hillbillies defeated winless Wyoming East, 49-8, Friday night at the War Zone.


Baisden ran for 105 yards on 11 carries and two touchdowns while Green rushed for 77 yards on four carries and two touchdowns while returning a kickoff for a third score.


Man, ranked 11th in Class A, improve to 4-1 with its fourth straight victory and handed Wyoming East its 12th consecutive loss dropping the Warriors to 0-3 on the year.


Baisden scored on runs of 5 and 8 in the first half while Green scored on an 11-yard run in the second quarter, ran in from 33-yards and returned a kickoff 71-yards in the fourth quarter.


Baisden’s first touchdown gave Man a 7-0 lead with 1:14 remaining in the opening quarter.


Leading 7-0 after one quarter of play, the Hillbillies erased any doubts of a Wyoming East upset by scoring 21 points in the second quarter to lead 28-0 at halftime.


Jordan Adams started the second quarter scoring with a 35-yard touchdown to put Man up 14-0 with 10:25 remaining.


Baisden scored from 8-yards on Man’s next possession to increase the Hillbillies advantage to 21-0 with 6:45 left in the half.


Green’s 11-yard touchdown with 4:43 in the second quarter closed out the first half scoring giving Man a 28-0 lead.


Wyoming East got a safety in the third quarter when Man was penalized for holding in the endzone with 1:46 to play to close the gap to 28-2.


Green’s second touchdown run, a 33-yarder, increased Man’s advantage to 35-2 with 10:30 remaining in the fourth quarter and a Josh Spriggs 4-yard touchdown with 4:19 to play gave Man a 42-2 lead.


Chase Adkins scored with 0:35 remaining to cut Man’s lead to 42-8, however, Green returned the ensuing kickoff 71-yards to put Man up 49-8 with 0:13 remaining.


Jackson Danielson completed 8 of 13 passes for 70 yards and ran for 48 yards on 22 carries for Wyoming East. Adkins had 36 yards on six carries and one touchdown while Jacob Cooper hauled in a reception for 25 yards and Cole Laxton caught two passes for 20 yards.


Adams rushed for 53 yards and one touchdown on four carries for the Hillbillies. Jayden Brumfield was 2 of 5 passing for 43 yards and ran for 31 yards on four attempts while Jacob Walls caught one pass for 40 yards.


Wyoming East plays host to River View Friday night looking to snap a 12-game losing streak dating back to last season.


Man, who has won five straight and nine of the last 12 played in the series with Wyoming East, leads the overall series 9-5.


The Hillbillies hope to crack the top 10 in the Class A playoff ratings scheduled to be released Tuesday afternoon by the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission.


Man returns to action Friday night at Buffalo in the third of four consecutive road games for the Hillbillies.
