WEBSTER SPRINGS Rob Ball and Jaxon McClung combined to go 6-for-6 with two home runs, a double, eight RBIs and five runs scored as the Logan Senior League All Stars mercy ruled Webster, 16-0, in four innings Saturday afternoon in the West Virgina Senior League State Tournament at Don E. McCourt Field.
McClung went 3-for-3 with a two-run home run, five RBIs and three runs scored while Ball was 3-for-3 with a double, two-run home run, three RBIs and two runs scored as Logan advanced to Sunday’s winners bracket championship against Sophia at 2 p.m.
Sophia advanced with an 8-0 win over Hedgesville earlier Saturday afternoon. Hedgesville and Central Greenbrier will play at 11 a.m. Sunday morning in the first of two elimination games with the winner advancing to face Webster at 6 p.m.
Alton Ellis had two hits and one RBI off the bench for Logan, including a double. Bentley Williamson added a double, one RBI and scored two runs while Tanner Akers had one hit, drove in one run and scored three times.
Grayson Sanders had one RBI and scored one run, Jayce Wolfe had one RBI and one run scored and Alex Good drove in a run as eight different hitters registered at least one RBI for Logan.
Landon Hall had a double and scored once and Adam Baisden singled to round out Logan’s 12-hit attack Saturday afternoon.
Ten different players crossed the plate for Logan including Owen Bryant and Gabe Goldie, who each crossed the plate one time.
Logan jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Wolfe started the scoring with an RBI groundout and McClung a two-run home run.
That was more than enough run support for starting pitcher Good, who allowed three hits and struck out nine batters in 3 2/3 innings to earn the win.
Maddox Brown, Joston Lewis and Remington Wright each had one hit for Webster.
Logan scored five runs in the second inning to add to its lead as Ball hit a two-run home run, McClung and Williamson had run scoring hits and Williamson came across to score on an error to make it 8-0 after two innings.
Logan sent 13 batters to the plate and scored eight times in the fourth inning. McClung drove in his fourth and fifth runs of the contest with a double to score Akers and Ellis to give Logan a 10-0 lead. Ball followed with his third hit and third RBI, scoring Sanders to make it 11-0.
McClung scored on an error making it 12-0 and Akers singled to score Ball as Logan surged ahead 13-0. Ellis’ second hit of the inning, a run scoring single to left scored Goldie, Sanders walked with the bases loaded to score Bryant and Akers scored on Good’s RBI fielder’s choice.
Lewis was the starting pitcher for Webster and suffered the loss after allowing five runs on six hits. He struck out two and walked one in 1 2/3 innings.
