Boone County school closed Thurs. & Fri. due to COVID


A COVID-19 outbreak closed a grade school last week, according to Boone County Schools’ superintendent.


Van Elemantary closed Thursday and remained closed Friday just one week after School returned to session. Boone County Schools says they chose to cancel school for the two days because a high number of staff had to take off and not enough substitutes to safely supervise students.


School resumes Monday, August 29.


According to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources last update on COVID19 infections, Boone County has 47 active cases of the virus. Across the mountain state, the DHHR Reported Friday 3,188 active cases of COVID


Seven additional deaths were confirmed. The state’s death toll stands at 7,268 fatalities.


299 patients are hospitalized for the virus and 47 of those hospitalized are in ICU. Thirteen patients require vents.
