Chapmanville man accused of kidnapping & strangulation

CHAPMANVILLE Man was arrested Sunday afternoon for allegedly kidnapping and strangling a woman.


According to the criminal complaint, Troopers were dispatched to the Chapmanville area around 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 23. A victim said 41-year-old Richard Darren McClure held her against her will at his residence. The complaint details instances when the victim was forced to disrobe to “find his dope.”


Victim describes being strangled, picked up and thrown to the ground once the accused did not find any drugs. The victim told police she left the residence and Mr. McClure followed her to her own residence where he demanded her to disrobe once again. A second victim exited the residence and told McClure to leave.


According to the complaint, McClure threatened to burn down the residence and have “friends come to shoot the residence up.”


McClure was charged with strangulation, kidnapping and two counts of assault.

The kidnapping and strangulation charges are felonies.
