Chapmanville pulls away from Mingo Central, sweeps season series from Miners, 68-51

NEWTOWN   Three Tigers scored 15 points or more as Chapmanville pulled away from Mingo Central on Tuesday night.


Cam Belvins, Zion Blevins and Joey Gollihue combined for 54 points as fifth-ranked Chapmanville defeated Mingo Central 68-51 and swept the season series from the Miners.


The Tigers improved to 15-6 with the win and likely locked up the top seed in the Class AA Region III Section 2 tournament while Mingo Central fell to 5-14 with the loss.


Cam Blevins led the Tigers with 22 points, Gollihue finished with 17 points and Zion Blevins 15 points.


Ethan Thomason led Mingo Central with a game-high 31 points including seven straight third quarter points to bring the Miners within three points.


Chapmanville regrouped to pull away in the third and take a 13-point lead, 52-39, into the fourth quarter.


Chapmanville closes the regular season Friday night at Scott while Mingo Central will travel to Wyoming East the same night.
