SOUTH CHARLESTON After a season opening to Greater Beckley Christian, the Chapmanville Tigers won their third straight Tuesday night, defeating the South Charleston Black Eagles, 71-55, at the South Charleston Community Center.
Chapmanville (3-1) jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first quarter before South Charleston (4-2) closed with a 12-2 run to take a 12-10 lead after one quarter.
Trailing by five in the second quarter, sophomore Dakota Dalton knocked down three of his five 3-pointers as the Tigers seized control of the contest.
Dalton finished with a team-high 19 points and was one of three Chapmanville players in double figures. Benji Adkins had 18 points, 10 coming in the third quarter, and Eli Smith added 16 points while Jay Brock just missed double figures, finishing with eight points.
Malcolm Brown scored a game-high 35 points for South Charleston; however, no other Black Eagle scored more than six points.
Chapmanville was 8-for-11 from the foul line while the Black Eagles were just 3-for-11 and were outrebounded by the Tigers, 37-29.
South Charleston will host Greenbrier East on January 3 at the South Charleston Community Center while Chapmanville heads south to compete in the 35th Annual Daytona Beach Sunshine Classic.
The Tigers, one of eight teams taking part in bracket two, will open tournament play Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. against the Bulls of Wireglass Ranch (Wesley Chapel, FL.)
