County Commissioner Barnette floats dividing job of administrator and economic director

Logan County Commissioner Diane Barnette said the positions of county administrator and economic development director should be separate.

Logan County is set to receive around 6 million dollars in federal funding from the American Rescue Plan signed into law by President Biden. Barnette made her comments during the public comment portion of the regular commission meeting earlier this week. Barnette said bringing in a second person to execute the duties of county administrator would be a great utilization of the money.

“Both jobs are very hard and require a lot of time,” Barnette said. “To get the most we can out of the money, we need to separate the two positions and hire someone else as county administrator.”

The two county jobs are currently held by Rocky Adkins, a long-time employee of the commission, and he agreed with Barnette. Adkins cited substantial growth with both positions that requires more dedicated focus.

The other commissioners seemed to be open to the idea, but no action was taken during the meeting.
