Commissioner Diana Barnette will conduct an open public forum this Thursday to “talk trash.”
Barnette says the purpose of the forum is to unify the community, discuss solutions and ultimately create a litter control program.
“We just need to have a conversation about what we can do to fix the problem,” Barnette said. “I know we’re probably never going to fix it totally, but we have to start somewhere.”
Barnette said she is leading this forum herself as a citizen and not as an elected official. She hopes that other officials like the Division of Natural Resources and the county judiciary will come out along with community leaders and organizations.
“A representative from everywhere to collaborate and put together a liter control program.”
She says the forum is a great first step to opening the lines of communication. Barnette wants to focus the conversation to litter, dilapidated structures and open dumps.
The public is welcomed to join the discussion this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Fountain Place Cinema 8.
