Eighth ranked Wildcats rout Dots, 49-20, for first 4-0 start in 32 years

LOGAN Jaxon Cogar threw four touchdowns, including two to Julius Clancy, as Class AA No. 8 Logan defeated Poca 49-20 Friday night at Willis-Nisbet Stadium to improve to 4-0 for the first time since 1990.


Cogar accounted for 277 yards, completing 15 of his 23 passes for 191 yards and rushed for 86 yards on nine carries for the Wildcats.


Clancy hauled in six receptions for 91 yards while Drew Berry and Garrett Williamson each had a touchdown reception and Aiden Slack ran for two scores in the Wildcats victory.


For the second consecutive week, Logan feel behind 7-0 after Jordan Wolfe’s 1-yard touchdown put the Dots ahead with 9:47 to play in the opening quarter.


The Wildcats responded with 36 unanswered points to take a 36-7 lead.


Slack opened the scoring for the Wildcats with his first of two rushing touchdowns, a 1-yard run with 6:41 remaining to tie the contest at 7.


Cogar connected with Williamson for a 25-yard touchdown and Slack found Cogar for a successful two-point conversion for a 15-7 Logan lead with 4:19 remaining in the opening quarter.


Poca fumbled on its next possession as Logan capitalized with a 34-yard touchdown pass from Cogar to Clancy to extends its advantage to 22-7 with 3:56 to play in the opening quarter.


Slack’s second touchdown, a 4-yard run gave Logan a 29-7 lead with 11:10 to play before halftime.


Cogar connected with Berry for a 12-yard touchdown for a 36-7 lead with 8:56 to play in the first half before Poca answered with a 25-yard touchdown as Wolfe hooked up with Jackson McClanahan to cut the deficit to 36-13 with 4:33 to play.


Conner Mullins closed out the first half scoring with a 3-yard touchdown to give Logan a 43-13 with 3:16 remaining before halftime.


Wolfe completed just 5 of his 15 passes for 151 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 58 yards on 20 attempts and one touchdown for the Dots.


Andrew Young ran for 79 yards on 22 rushes and McClanahan hauled in two passes for 81 yards and two touchdowns.


Wolfe connected with McClanahan on 56-yard touchdown to cut Logan’s lead to 43-20 with 4:35 to play in the third quarter.


Cogar hooked up with Clancy for a 27-yard touchdown with 3:16 remaining in the third to give Logan a 49-20 lead after Slack’s first missed point after attempt of the season.


Slack caught four passes for 48 yards, scored two touchdowns on the ground and kicked five extra points while Clancy returned two kickoffs for 76 yards.


Adam Baisden carried the ball five times for 45 yards while Mullins had three carries for 15 yards and one score. Williamson had three catches for 36 yards and Berry two receptions for 16 yards.


Poca, a Class AA semifinalist last season, falls to 0-4 for the first time since 2016. The Dots will host Mingo Central in search of their first victory of the season.


Logan, 4-0 for the first time since 1990, will travel to Winfield to face the Generals. Logan and Winfield are currently tied for first in the Cardinal Conference with a 3-0 record and are joined by Scott at the top of the standings.


Logan, who entered the week eighth in the West Virginia Secondary Schools Activities Commission playoff ratings, could move into the top six when the new ratings are released Tuesday afternoon.
