RANGER Facing Hunger Foodbank CEO Cynthia Kirkhart says the organization is ready to get back to food distributions this week after operations were slowed down by recent winter weather.

Facing Hunger says it is rolling out three mobile units this week. While drivers and staff have continued to show up to work, distribution efforts have been on pause as food trucks were unable to make it out due to icy conditions in neighborhoods and secondary roads.

The group is planning to make a stop in Lincoln County tomorrow. Food distribution will happen from 11am to noon at the Ranger Senior Center, weather permitting. They’ll also be distributing at the following locations:

  • Mingo County at New Visions Assembly in Matewan on Tuesday, February 10th

  • Wayne County at the Fort Gay Community Center on Thursday, February 12th

  • Logan County at the Restoration House of God in Amherstdale on February 24th

  • The Martin County Public Library in Inez, KY, on February 26th.

The organization says it had productive conversations on Friday with state lawmakers focusing on the need for continued support for West Virginia’s two food banks, especially in the wake of last year’s cancellation of the Local Food Purchase Assistance program.
