LOGAN COUNTY  The skies are expected to light up across Logan County tomorrow night for the Fourth of July.

Town of Man Mayor John Fekete says his town’s fireworks will be best seen from anywhere in South Man or at Market Square. The first ones are expected to fire off at around 9:15pm.

The show is scheduled to start at 9:30 in the City of Logan. City officials say the best views available are going to be from The Island as well as Shawnee Island. Be sure to look to the water towers.

Meanwhile in the Town of Chapmanville, Mayor Joel McNeely says the show starts at about 10:00pm. The mayor and town council thank the Evans family for allowing the town to set fireworks off from their property. McNeely says the best views will be from the high school and primary school parking lots.

On July 4, 1776, Congress approved the Declaration of Independence.

On the day before, founding father John Adams wrote a letter to his wife, Abigail. In that letter, Adams said that America’s day of independence “ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.”

Despite writing that, however, Adams refused to celebrate on the Fourth because the First Continental Congress actually cast that vote to declare independence on July second.
