Lady Tigers overcome slow start to rout Lady Dots

POCA Class AA co-No. 7 Chapmanville overcame a slow first quarter start to defeat Poca 62-19 in high school girls basketball action Tuesday night.


Alaira Evans led Chapmanville with a game-high 18 points connecting on six field goals, three of which were 3-pointers, and 3 of 5 free throws.


Chapmanville led 12-9 after one quarter but outscored Poca 14-4 in the second quarter to take a 26-13 lead. The Lady Tigers put the game away in the second half outscoring the Lady Dots 36-6.


Hayley Fleming and Jaiden Mahon each had nine points for Chapmanville, who improved to 3-0 with the victory.


Evans make three of the Lady Tigers seven 3-pointers.


Alyssa Raynes led Poca with five points. Madison Nehme and Maya Wick each had four points for the Lady Dots.


Poca (0-2) will look for its first win of the season Thursday night when they host Herbert Hoover.


Chapmanville returns to action Friday night at 7 p.m. against Oak Hill.
