NEW RICHMOND Candence Blackburn scored 14 points and Madison Clark had 13 points as Class AA No. 1 Wyoming East blocked 10 shots in a 51-39 win over Class AAA No. 2 Logan Wednesday night at Wyoming East High School.
Blackburn was 4 of 11 shooting with a game-high eight rebounds while Clark connected on 5 of 12 shots from the field and dished out a game-best eight assists for the Lady Warriors.
Gabby Cameron and Alivia Monroe each blocked three shots and Clark and Colleen Lookabill blocked two shots each as the Lady Warriors length limited Logan to 30 percent shooting from the field.
The Lady Wildcats converted on 12 of 39 shots, were 6 of 12 from 3-point range, but inside the 3-point line, the Lady Wildcats were just 6 for 27.
To make manners worse, Logan scored just two points in the third quarter as Wyoming East doubled its eight-point halftime advantage and led 39-23 after three quarters.
Logan would not quit and twice trimmed a double-digit deficit to single digits. Trailing 15-3 early in the first quarter, the Lady Wildcats closed to within six on a couple of occasions in the first half, and again in the fourth quarter when down by 16, the Lady Wildcats closed to within nine, but could get no closer.
Autumn Adkins and Natalie Blankenship each had 12 points to lead Logan in scoring. Bam Mosby added six points and Halle Crouse had five points for the Lady Wildcats, who committed 18 turnovers in the defeat.
Clark had five of the Lady Warriors first nine points as they jumped out to a 9-1 lead and held the Lady Wildcats without a field goal for the first 3:51 of the opening quarter.
Mosby ended the drought with a layup to bring Logan within six, 9-3, with 4:09 to play, but Wyoming East got a pair of baskets from Blackburn and one from Clark to take a 15-3 lead with 3:00 to play.
Adkins hit back-to-back 3’s to close the gap to 15-9 with 1:23 to play, but Blackburn’s 3 with 0:18 remaining gave Wyoming East an 18-9 lead after one quarter of play.
Blankenship and Adkins hit back-to-back 3’s in the second quarter to trim a 13-point deficit to six, 25-19, with 2:53 to play before halftime.
Trailing 29-21 at halftime, Logan scored the first bucker of the third quarter when Mosby converted on a layup attempt with 7:16 to play to bring the Lady Wildcats within six, 29-23.
Logan wouldn’t score for the remainder of the quarter as Wyoming East closed on a 10-0 run to take a 16-point advantage into the fourth quarter.

Wyoming East was 18 of 46 from the field and 4 of 13 from behind the arc. The Lady Warriors improved 5-0 with the win and will return to action on Dec. 22 against Class AA No. 6 Mingo Central, who is also unbeaten on the year.
It will be the fifth consecutive game for the Lady Warriors against ranked competition. Thus far they have defeated AAA No. 2 Logan and No. 10 PikeView (63-34) and Class AA co-No. 7 Frankfort (56-38) and No. 9 Ritchie County (62-42).
Logan fell to 2-3 on the year and was scheduled to host Poca Thursday night.
