MAN The Lady Hillbillies honored their softball seniors before Wednesday evening’s contest, but in the end Wyoming East spoiled the evening and left Man with a 5-3 victory.
Olivia Hylton held Man to three runs on seven hits while striking out seven and walking one to earn the win in the circle. Hylton also had one hit and drove in one run at the plate for Wyoming East.
Man got the scoring started in the second inning when Kirsten Ellis scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Baylee Muncy to give the Lady Hillbillies 1-0 lead.
The lead was short lived as Wyoming plated single runs in the third and fourth and then scored three times in the fifth to capture a 5-1 lead after five innings of play.
Candence Clay scored on Maddie Clark’s sacrifice fly in the third to tie the game, 1-1, after three complete innings.
In the fourth, Alivia Monroe singled to center scoring Savannah Brehm to give the Lady Warriors a 2-1 lead after four innings.
Wyoming East extended its lead to 5-1 after five innings thanks to a three-run fifth that started with an RBI single Hylton scoring Makayla King for a 3-1 lead.
Later in the fifth, Clark and Hylton scored on an error to give Wyoming East a 5-1 lead.
Man cut into the deficit with a two-run sixth as Jacklyn Barnett stole home to bring the Lady Hillbillies within three, 5-2, and Muncy doubled to right scoring Trista Marcum to make it 5-3 after six innings.
Brehm had two of Wyoming East’s four hits while Monroe and Hylton each had one hit and one RBI for the Lady Warriors who also got an RBI from Clark.
Morgan Cooper suffered the loss in the circle for the Lady Hillbillies. Cooper allowed five runs, but only one earned run, on four hits while striking out 15 and walking one in seven innings of work.
Ellis had three hits including a double while Muncy had a double and drove in two runs for Man. Barnett, Cooper and Marcum each had one hit for the Lady Hillbillies.
