Lady Wildcats finish second in Battle for the Springhouse

WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS   After advancing to the championship game of the Battle for the Springhouse, the Logan Lady Wildcats came up one game short of a championship falling to Class AAA No. 6 North Marion 60-49 Saturday night at the Greenbrier Resort.

 

Logan advanced to the championship game with a 58-52 win over Class AAAA No. 8 Greenbrier East Friday night, snapping the Lady Spartans 10-game winning streak.

 

Halle Crouse led Logan with 22 points and Addyson Amick added 11 as Logan outscored Greenbrier East 22-5 in the second quarter to erase an eight-point first quarter deficit.

 

The Lady Spartans outscored the Lady Wildcats 17-9 in the third quarter to pull within one, but Logan was able to outscore East 19-14 in the fourth quarter to hold on for the win.

 

Jada Waller led the Lady Spartans with 13 points, Ava Workman scored 12, Hannah Fuller added 11 and MacKenna McClure finished with 10.

 

Bam Mosby had seven points and Ava Albright, Payton Butcher and Jayden Meade each had six points for Logan.

 

In Saturday’s championship, Logan fell behind by 14 points in the first half before cutting the deficit to one, 22-21, with 3:43 to play before halftime; however, the Lady Wildcats could get no closer as they never led in falling to the sixth-ranked Lady Huskies.

 

Emma Freels had a game-high 25 points, Meya Kotsko finished with 13 and Brooklynn Jackson added 10 for reigning Class AAA champion North Marion.

 

Crouse led Logan with 16 points, Mosby finished with 11, Crouse had nine and Steele six points.
