PIKEVILLE, KY Pike County Central ran its winning streak to five games on Friday evening as the Lady Hawks held off a late seventh inning rally to defeat Logan 4-1.
Emalie Tackett’s RBI single in the fifth inning broke a 1-1 tie giving Pike County Central a 2-1 lead. The Lady Hawks tacked on two runs in the sixth inning.
Ashlin Brumfield led off the seventh inning with a single and Isabella Propst followed Brumfield’s single by drawing a walk to give Logan runners at first and second. Following a Chloe Hannah strikeout of Emilee Mullins, Taylor Noe singled to load the bases for Lacy Curry.
Curry lined out to third basemen Livia Sanders, who threw to second basemen Jaycie Stanley to force Propst at second ending the game and preserving the Lady Hawks win.
Hannah allowed one run on seven hits in seven innings. She struck out six and walked two.
Shae Conley suffered the loss for Logan after allowing four runs – one earned – on five hits in six innings. She struck out seven and walked two.
Tackett had two hits and one RBI, Sydney Thompson had one hit and one RBI and Taylor Hannah and Kaiden Hess each had one hit for the Lady Hawks.
Addison Brumfield had two hits for Logan and McKenna Ooten had an RBI double while Mullins doubled and Myleigh Adkins, Ashlin Brumfield and Noe had one hit each for the Lady Wildcats.
Pike County Central, winners of seven of its last eight games, improved to 13-7 and will travel to Perry County Central.
Logan falls to 12-5 and will host Nitro Monday evening at 6 p.m.
