A Kanawha County man was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without mercy for a crime spree in February 2020 that included murder.
28-year-old Joshua Drennen, of Clendenin, was previously convicted on seven felonies.
Drennen forced his way into the home of 77-year-old Barbara Steele and killed her with an antique iron. Moreover, Drennen dragged a woman from her car before stealing it.
He was later apprehended during a traffic stop. Drennen attempted to attack the officer with the very same iron he used to murder Ms. Steele. The officer shot Drennen and arrested him.
Judge Jennifer Bailey said the case involved the most heinous crimes in her 20-year career.
