NEWTOWN  Sophomore Devin Stewart dominated on the rubber Monday afternoon, tossing a three-inning no-hitter in Class AA No. 9 Logan’s 15-0 three-inning mercy rule victory over Mingo Central on top of Miner Mountain.

Stewart retired the first five batters before Dylan Mounts reached base safely on an error with two outs in the bottom of the second. Stewart was in complete control of the strike zone as 24 of his 30 pitches were called for strikes and he struck out five of the 10 batters he faced.

The Wildcats gave him plenty of run support with a 14-run first inning before Stewart even threw a pitch.

Logan, who has won four of its last five games, pounded out 13 hits and took advantage of eight Mingo Central errors to improve to 10-6 on the season.

In the first inning, Logan scored 14 runs on 11 hits and there were seven Miner errors in the frame.

Rob Ball, Chase Hatfield and McCormick Ilderton each had two hits. Hatfield stuffed the box score with a double, two runs driven in and two runs scored. Ball and Ilderton each had a double, scored two runs each and also drove in one run apiece for the victorious Wildcats.

Tanner Akers, Adam Baisden and Ivan Miller each drove in two runs and had one hit each. Miller had a double and scored twice while Luke Blankenship had one hit, scored two runs and drove one in and Alton Ellis had one hit and one RBI.

Jack Ball and William Bryant rounded out the 13-hit attack for Logan with one hit each and Crew Blankenship scored twice.

Keziah Joplin was the losing pitcher for Mingo Central. Joplin failed to record an out in the first inning and allowed 12 runs – only six earned – on five hits and three walks.

The Miners had their four-game winning streak snapped and fell to 6-8 on the year. Mingo Central will host Man on Wednesday afternoon.

Logan returns to action Tuesday evening when they host county rival Chapmanville at Roger E. Gertz Field.
