Logan Little League wins second straight Senior League softball state championship, run rules Beckley 20-2 with 16-run 2nd inning

INWOOD Logan Little League won its second straight Senior League softball
state championship scoring 16 runs in the second inning to run rule the
Beckley Little League 20-2 Sunday afternoon at the South Berkeley Little
League Field.
Logan will now represent West Virginia in the Southeast Regional in
Clarksville, Tennessee where they will open regional play against the Florida
state champion, Friday, July 24th at 12:30 p.m.
Logan swept through the double elimination tournament by outscoring its
opponents 57-2 in four games.
Logan opened with a 15-0 four inning win over host South Berkeley and
defeated Wayne Central 11-0 in five innings on Saturday to advance to the
winner’s bracket championship where they defeated Grant County 11-0 on
Sunday to move into the driver’s seat of the Senior League State Tournament.
Beckley fought its way out of the loser’s bracket with a pair of 5-4 victories
over Ona-Milton and Grant County to advance to the state championship, but
was unable to win a third game and force a winner-take-all state
championship finale Monday.
Logan led 3-1 after one inning and scored seven second inning runs before
making an out. Logan tacked on nine more runs and lead 19-1 when the
inning ended.
Lena Setser had two hits including a double and drove in four runs, Mia
Johnson contributed with two hits and three RBIs while Alliyah Smith doubled,
tripled and drove home a pair of runs.
Lilly Fleming and Zoe Chaney each had a double and two hits and one RBI
apiece while Miley Fleming, Myah Kirkendall and Kinley Steele each had one
hit and one RBI and Ayla Vance added a double.
Despite being pulled in the first inning after the first three Beckley hitters
reached base, Chaney was credited with the win after allowing two runs on
five hits with two strikeouts in one inning.
Setser worked two innings of hitless relief in the circle for Logan striking out
five and walking one and Mia Johnson threw one scoreless inning allowing
one hit and striking out one.
Beckley’s Allison Moten gave up 11 runs and seven hits in three innings
pitched.
Fallyn Rakes and Alyssia Rhineheart each had one hit and one RBI for
Beckley and Bailey Nickell had one hit.
In Sunday’s winner’s bracket contest, Setser was dominate in the circle for
Logan hurling a one hit shutout while striking out 12 in a 11-0 win over Grant
County.
Setser retired the first 12 hitters she faced in the Grant County lineup before
Jayla Bierkamp singled leading off the fifth.
Lilly and Miley Fleming each had three hits for Logan, Chaney had two hits
and one RBI and Smith had a double and two RBIs.
Setser, Kinley Steele and Vance each had one hit and one RBI, Sophia
Chaney drove in a run and Kirkendall and Peyton Sigmon each had one hit.
Logan 15, South Berkeley 0: Chaney tossed a four inning no hitter striking
out 10 and walking just one in Logan state tournament opening victory over
host South Berkeley.
Chaney was perfect through 3 1/3 innings before Kori Edwards drew a one
out walk for South Berkeley’s only base runner.
Vance was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a home run and five RBIs and Chaney
was 2-for-3 with four RBIs. Lilly Fleming had three hits including a triple and
drove in one run.
Mia Johnson had two hits and one RBI, Kirkendall two hits, Setser, Smith and
Steele each had one hit and one RBI and Miley Fleming one hit.
Logan 11, Wayne Central 0: Kirkendall had two hits and three RBIs and Lilly
Fleming two hits and two RBIs while Sigmon had a triple and drove in two
runs in Logan’s win over Wayne Central.
Johnson tossed a three-hit complete game shutout in the circle striking out
nine and walking two. Vance hit her second home run in as many games
while Setser and Steele each had one hit and Miley Fleming scored three
runs.
Alexa Bishop, Scout Maynard and Sophie Napier each had one hit for Wayne
Central.
