LOGAN Logan scored 14 unanswered runs on Saturday to mercy-rule Nitro 14-3 at Roger E. Gertz Field.

Logan (6-0) trailed 3-0 after one half inning but went on to plate six runs in the first, two in the second, four in the third and two more in the fourth for the mercy-rule victory.

Nitro pitchers had troubles finding the strike zone, issuing nine walks, and hitting three Logan batters in four innings. Walks and hit batters weren’t the only issues Nitro pitchers had as Logan scored four runs off three wild pitches and a passed ball.

Nitro (3-4) jumped on Logan starter Joey Canterbury for three first inning runs as the first four batters reached base safely. Noah Reed had a run-scoring double, Carter Jones a run-scoring single and Wes Woodson an RBI groundout.

Canterbury settled down after the first inning giving up just one hit over the next two innings. Canterbury earned the win after allowing three runs on four hits, striking out three and walking one in three innings of work. Ryan Roberts replaced Canterbury, throwing two-innings of one-hit relief with three strikeouts and two walks.

Korbin Bostic led off the Logan first with a triple and scored on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to 3-1.

Konner Lowe’s two-run single tied the game at 3-3 and Garrett Williamson scored on a wild pitch to give Logan a 4-3 lead.

Lowe scored on a throwing error to make it 5-3 and Aiden Slack scored on Nitro starting pitcher Bryce Wolford’s third wild pitch of the first inning for a 6-3 Logan lead as the first six batters in the Logan lineup reached base and scored.

Slack’s sacrifice fly in the second increased Logan’s lead to 7-3 and courtesy runner McCormick Ilderton scored on a pass ball to make it 8-3 after two innings.

Logan added to its lead with four runs in the third behind a two-run single from Jake Ramey, a run-scoring single from Slack and a sacrifice fly from Roberts.

Chad Burnette closed out the scoring with a pinch hit two-run single in the fourth inning.

Wolford suffered the loss for Nitro. Wolford gave up eight runs on five hits and struck out one and walked two in 1 1/3 innings. Issac Elkins tossed 1 2/3 innings of relief allowing four runs on four hits and three walks. Luke Buckner pitched one inning two runs on one hit while walking four and striking out one.
